PF&R Responds to 2nd Alarm Fire in North Portland

Portland Fire & Rescue responds to it’s second 2-Alarm fire in as many days. When fire crews were dispatched to a residential fire (6214 N. Kerby) at 2:29 pm. initial reports stated that there were explosions prior to the fire. Firefighters arrived to find a home that was destroyed by an explosion with neighboring homes damaged and on fire. Incident Commanders quickly called for a more units to respond (2nd Alarm) to limit the damage. One patient was transported to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

This fire presented many challenges for the firefighters. Rapid fire spread, a damaged natural gas line, hot weather, down power lines, and multiple houses affected at the same time. Fire crews continue to search through the debris for any additional victims and investigators are on scene working to determine exactly what happened. This release will be updated as information comes in.
