Summer has finally arrived, and so has the increased risk of wildfires in the state of Oregon.

The American Red Cross has cited that once a fire breaks out, you have two minutes or less to escape from your home. As many households know, a working fire alarm is essential in these circumstances as well as an active fire escape plan.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind in the face of a house fire:

  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, as well as in individual bedrooms
  • Test your smoke alarms every month to see if you need to replace the batteries
  • Discuss a fire escape plan with your entire family and practice it twice a year
  • When a fire breaks out, leave your house and stay outside – you should never go back inside to save anything, ever.
