The entire west coast was under a Tsunami warning on January 15th, 2022 due to an undersea volcano that erupted near the Pacific Nation of Tonga. According to this article in the Oregonian, even though Emergency Alert systems did warn people to stay away from the Ocean, many ignored them and still walked along the beach with sneaker and high wave alerts.

While it may be a rare event that some people want to see firsthand, the safest option when these alerts come out is to find high ground and be prepared!
