In September 2020 we had devastating forest fires throughout Oregon and Washington. Then in January 2021 there were land slides followed up with an ice storm in February. Now in March we are approaching spring, which means thunderstorms. Just last week there was a small thunderstorm where lightening struck trees throughout Portland, Oregon. Luckily, we are just a few months away from summer and the sun is already beginning to shine!
It is important to prepare for and learn about the weather changes where you live. Here are some tips for the Pacific Northwest:
- Make sure you have the proper insurance for any damage to your property.
- Prepare your living space with emergency kits and non perishable food.
- Make a plan with your house mates about what to do in case of an emergency.
- Know your whereabouts and “need to know” information for your area. (Example: If you are near a body of water or a mountain)
Weather is uncontrollable, but if we prepare ourselves for the worse case scenario for ALL situations, it makes everything easier in the long run.
